The Price of Performance
A traveler
to a far country
a timely journey
Called his servants
to do a work
in his absence
According to their ability
five talents
two talents
one talent
Not just a sum
but a weight
a thing to carry
a thing to answer for
After a time
the traveler returned
calling again
on his servants
To the one with five
ten
faithful over a few
ruler over many
To the one with two
four
faithful over a few
ruler over many
To the one with one
one
I was fearful
and hid it until today
Same talent
same burden
same worth
Cast this
unprofitable servant
into darkness
Some are given
much weight
some little
All are expected
to bear it faithfully
If we persevere
we will reign
Life is an audition
The cost
of the audition
is in the price
of the performance
What do we do
with what life
places in our hands
and onto our shoulders
Performance
is the difference between
bearing a burden
and burying a burden
Carry what you are given
do not bury it in fear
